A New Look at Bridesmaid Dresses
Being in the wedding industry I aim to stay up to date with the latest trends and ideas in weddings. I love Darcy’s Wedding Idea of the Day, emails from Martha Stewart Weddings. It’s a quick daily email always with a beautiful photo and a quick read, with the option to learn more about “today’s idea” by clicking through to the website.
Yesterday was an idea on Colorful Gowns that I personally love! Taking the bridesmaids dresses and instead of them all wearing the same dress in the same color, or event different dress in the same color, really mix it up. Look at a full spectrum of color. The example Darcy shared in the email was pink, ranging from a hot pink for the M.O.H. to a blush and baby pink for the bridesmaids. Each dress is different but you can see they all some similar detailing in the the pleating.
One of the reasons I love this idea so much is because I did this at my very own wedding. My sister the M.O.H. wore a silver gown that was a halter style and some rouching at the waist.
My best friends wore champagne with a deep v-neck and wide straps again with some rouching just above the waist. And my sister-in-law wore a gold strapless dress that was strapless and had some rouching detail down one side.

I think this idea is a great way to know the bridal party will be the most comfortable and confident in their dresses. It allows them to choose what dress may be best for their body type and personality.
All the dresses were from Jim Hjelm and they have some great contemporary cuts. “Each dress has its own individual look and special details,” says Francesca Pitera, Designer for Jim Hjelm Occasions Collection. “Every little thing is important, even the placement of embroidery or the way draping falls over a gown’s bodice. I try to offer a wide variety of different looks so I can give to brides and bridesmaids a range of strong choices. The most important thing to me is that women are happy and feel absolutely gorgeous in their gowns.”
On a side note I also bought extra fabric in each color and had custom ties made for the Best Man and Groomsmen. They not only match perfectly but made great gifts for the guys, being that my husbands twin brother’s are 6′5″ we didn’t have any problem having to look for extra long ties. We just got all their measurements and gave them to a local seamstress!

I love that they each wore a different cut and colour to suit their individual needs. Who ever came up with the horrible idea that 4 or 5 bridesmaids of totally different shapes should be poured into the exact same dress and expect to look good? Cheers to you!
