Going Green with J.Sullivan Design
So in my first blog entry I pointed out that Jillian and I were sending green invites to wedding planners in the northeast as a way of promoting the new website. Well, the green invites have been sent and they’re gorgeous! If you’d like your own copy of the invite, or you know someone who might, email me your contact information at “hello@jsullivandesign.com”, and I’ll get one sent to you as soon as possible!

In honor of the green invites, and of (one of) my New Year’s resolutions of being more environmentally conscientious, I wanted to highlight ways that JSD’s invitations are “green”:
1. The printer that we use in Cambridge, MA, largely uses recycled paper to print all of our invitations. It is also possible to order other “green” options through this printer, such as: seed-embedded paper, wood veneers, and soy-based ink.
2. We also try to be more creative about invitations, so that we can use less paper.
A. For instance, if it makes sense, as was mentioned in a previous blog, turning your holiday card into a save-the-date will get your guests’ attention at a generous time of year, and cut down on the waste of an additional card.
B. Postcards make great save-the-dates, especially if a lot of people will be traveling some distance to witness the event. A “Wish You Were Here” type of message, super-imposed on an image of the setting, along with the details of the day on the other side of the card is clever and cost-effective.
C. In a similar vein, for your destination wedding you can enclose perforated and stamped response cards inside your invitation. Guests can tear off their “ticket” to let you know that they can’t wait for your big day! You end up using less paper, and you get people revved up about traveling to see you.
Jillian and I want your invitations to make a big impact on your guests without making a big impact on the environment. We’re always looking for new ideas, so please share with us any suggestions that you have about being a small “green” business.
