Brides Boston Magazine

coverEarlier this year the lovely folks at Brides Magazine Boston requested some of my favorite invitation pieces from this past year. I was thrilled a few weeks later to learn one of our invitation sets were going to be featured in their Fall/Winter 2009 Magazine (which is on news stands now!)

The piece featured was Amy and Travis unique concert poster style piece. The entire set consisted of the 11×17 poster rolled up with a response post cards that were sent through the post via mailing tubes with custom labels. You can read the original blog post on their set here, and check out the article below!

Reception: Custom Cake Stands

Over the past few years I have started collecting plates and glasses for every occasion.  Lately when ever Tim and I are out of town I always come home with a new set of something. My latest finds,  a crab shaped aluminum serving piece from our weekend in Provincetown, and before that a set of 4 victorian inspired oysters plates from New Orleans. In my search for some new dessert plates for our upcoming one year anniversary, I came across Clara French Ceramique. A site not to be missed by any bride or baker for that matter. They create the most gorgeous cake stands I have ever seen!

They have five differently stunning stands, each can be customized with color and a personalized message, such a sweet detail. Or they will create something just for your and your celebration. These are pieces that could be become a family keepsakes. If creating a custom stand isn’t in your budget, their cake stands and cupcake stands are also available to rent. What an beautiful detail to display at your reception.

Tips : Weddings in Newport

Married in Newport 09.12.1953

Married in Newport 09.12.1953

Over the weekend Tim and I snuck down to Newport, RI for a little R&R, a few mansion tours, and some yummy lobsters. While strolling though the Vanderbilts Breakers on Saturday we were lucky enough to see them setting up for a wedding that evening. I couldn’t help but peek into the tent and check out the sorbet themed reception in the works. Yummy yellows, soft orange and pink was a perfect color palette for the mid August affair in the gilded summer cottage.

While chatting with some friends later that evening we got a great insiders tip! If you looking to have your wedding reception at one of the stunning seaside mansions in Newport, Rhode Island, but can’t afford the hefty  rental fee of The Breakers. Check out some of the  properties that have the same view and same grandeur, it’s just not “The Breakers”.  Also, check into  privately owned and operated Mansions again it’s not going to read “The  Breakers” on the invitation but it’s will state a Newport Mansion… I am doing a bit digging on this and will be sure to share my results. I would imagine local wedding planners in Newport would have the full inside scoop!

Girls Night: Martinis and Manicures

I just got  a great tweet (I am still trying to figure out twitter - but I am there ,check it out) for a perfect girls night out.

Martinis and Manicures at OM

On Monday, August 24th saunter over to OM for a bit of girly fun in their lovely garden. Sip on samples of their tasty summer cocktails and pretty up those fingernails - Fiona will be in residence for manicures. While you’re there, why not try a little something tasty off of chef Michael Madden’s summer menu or something chocolate from pastry chefClarissa Madden. This perfect excuse for a girl’s night out begins at 6:00pm and costs only $20 for a manicure and three cocktail samples. Call 617.576.2800 to make sure there’s room for you and your gaggle.

It sounds like a fun evening!

Wedding Colors: How to choose

Weddings are all about color right now. And I love it! It’s everywhere and it’s so much more than just the accent, that color was years ago. When choosing your color palette be sure to consider location and the season. Be aware of things that you can and can’t decorate inside your reception space. The third big factor is the mood your trying to create. A soft and romantic garden party (think gold, pink and peach),  a glamorous and regal affair (aubergine, deep raspberry, and copper), or vibrant night club scene (navy, teal and turquoise).

Start collecting clippings of color combinations you like. Pull pages from magazines, look at vintage post cards and posters for palettes as well. Martha Stewart Wedding recommends hitting the good old color wheel for inspiration as well. You know, the same one from middle school art class. They offers these helpful tips when look at the color wheel: 1. Neighboring colors, such as orange, peach, and yellow, mix without clashing. 2 .Reds and greens are opposite colors, and like most opposites, at their brightest, they look more bold than beautiful together. When both shades are muted — to mauve and citrus green, for example — the effect is subtle and sophisticated. 3. Use the entire range of a single color, from pale to dark, and pair it with a neutral for a rich palette. 4. White is the traditional wedding color. Adding one color lends a dramatic spark. This should help narrow down some choices. I have worked with a few brides who went to their local hard ware store and pull paint chips. Which I think is a fabulous idea, and helpful when describing your colors to all your vendors.

I also found this great tid bit on the knot about not going overboard with color:  That overdoing it with a matchy-match look is entirely possible. (You don’t want your guests thinking, Um, yeah, lavender…we get it.) Begin with the five essential wedding elements (attire, invitations, flowers, cake, and favors) and see where you can — or should — add more color. Then consider details, such as napkins, candles, signature drinks, your ring pillow, or your guest book, made from the same fabric and in the same color as the bridesmaid dresses.

What are your wedding colors, and how are you using them?

Favors: French Macarons

French Macarons are the perfect bite size treat and can be created in so many beautiful colors - I think that’s why they are often featured in Martha Stewart Weddings Magazine and make a perfect wedding favor!

Lucky for me some of the best around are found in Cambridge’s L.A. Burdick Chocolate. And even better yet, they will ship them right to you! These hand-piped, tender meringue treats are filled with flavored buttercreams. Flavorings include chocolate, coffee, pistachio, raspberry, lavender, almond-citrus and ginger. YUM!

Burdicks packs them in boxes of 15. And after many  requests they finally started packing them as wedding favors. They will  have place 2  macarons in a cello bag. With orders of 25 or more the tie each one with coordinating ribbon that has been imprinted with your personal message (names and wedding date perhaps). These are the perfect mid-night snack for your guests.

If not your not in search of wedding favors but still in the  Harvard Square area I would definitely recommend checking this place out. Nibble on a chocolate mouse or penguin, the hand dipped chocolates that made them famous. Or sip on some of the most delicious hot chocolate I have ever had.  Brudcicks Harvard Square Cafe is located at 52-D Brattle Street, Cambridge, MA 02138. Phone: 617-491-4340

Aisle Dancing

http://abcnews.go.com/video/playerIndex?id=8164491 I watched this video and thought what a great way to come down the aisle. There is no way Jillian and myself could have done this. As much as I try, I can’t get her to let me lead!
